Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has rolled out a service that guarantees single-entry tourist visas within 48 working hours for more than 180 nationalities. The accelerated channel—announced on 11 June—covers 30-day and 60-day visas and is accessible entirely online via GDRFA-approved travel agencies and portals. Under the new protocol, applicants upload passport scans and photos, pay fees electronically and receive an e-visa by email. GDRFA officials say internal automation and AI-driven risk scoring now enable clearance in “two working days or less,” with some low-risk applicants already seeing approvals in under six hours during pilot testing. The move is expected to boost last-minute leisure trips, conference attendance and urgent business travel—a segment where Dubai competes with Doha and Riyadh. For corporate mobility teams, the benefit is the ability to confirm staff travel plans closer to event dates, reducing unused ticket costs. However, the fast-track does not override existing security checks. High-risk nationals may still be asked for additional documentation, and overstayers face the same AED 200-per-day penalty. Travel managers are therefore advised to continue monitoring visa validity during on-the-ground extensions. Tourism analysts predict that the 48-hour promise could add up to 1 million extra visitors per year if even a fraction of short-notice travellers choose Dubai over competing hubs. Airlines and hotels are already advertising “fly Friday, meet Monday” packages to capitalise on the policy.
