Avianca adds Belém–Bogotá nonstop, boosting Amazon connectivity before COP-30
With less than two weeks to go before COP 30, Colombian carrier Avianca announced on 25 October 2025 that it will launch a thrice-weekly nonstop service between Belém (BEL) and Bogotá (BOG) starting 27 October. The new route, to be operated by 180-seat Airbus A320 neo aircraft, ends a four-year gap in direct connectivity between northern Brazil and the Andean hub and is expected to carry both climate-summit delegates and cargo tied to Amazonian supply chains.

The flight departs Belém at 03:10 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving in Bogotá at 06:40; the return leaves at 22:30 on the same days, landing at 02:00. Schedules are timed for bankable connections to Avianca’s North-American network (Miami, New York, Los Angeles) and its growing Central-American portfolio. For business travellers, the route cuts door-to-door journey times between Belém and major U.S. cities by up to five hours compared with itineraries that backtrack via São Paulo or Panama City.

Avianca negotiated temporary slot flexibility with Brazil’s civil-aviation regulator (ANAC) to secure early-morning arrivals, citing the exceptional demand spike around COP 30. The Pará state government is subsidising airport fees for the first six months and has pledged fast-track immigration lanes for passengers on COP 30-accredited itineraries.

The move strengthens Belém’s push to become a secondary international gateway for northern Brazil. Passenger numbers at BEL grew 2.4 % year-on-year to 1.48 million through September, largely on the back of COP-related traffic, according to regional press reports. For exporters, Avianca Cargo will offer 2.5 tonnes of weekly belly capacity, opening a direct lane for time-sensitive fish and açaí shipments to Colombia and onward to the U.S.

Travel-management companies should review corporate fare agreements: Avianca is releasing a limited Business Promo bucket for the launch month, after which normal dynamic pricing will apply. Companies sending staff to the summit may see savings if they route via Bogotá rather than São Paulo–Miami – but only if they book before the promotional inventory disappears.
