PA media wire carried by Echo Live reports that 17 of the 24 adults arrested during Wednesday night’s stand-off at Citywest were formally charged with serious public-order offences on 23 October. Five male juveniles were released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme, while two adults were released pending further investigation.
Gardaí revealed that 15 e-bikes and scooters – allegedly used to shuttle fireworks and projectiles – were seized. Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan described the perpetrators as “thugs who will be named and dealt with relentlessly,” adding that additional CCTV footage is being reviewed.
The swift prosecutions are intended to deter copy-cat actions at other asylum sites, including centres in Co Meath and Co Clare that have faced smaller protests.
