Aena Reports 4 % Passenger Growth and €1.58 B Profit—Positive Signal for Corporate Travel Budgets
Airport operator Aena published its nine-month results on 29 October, revealing net profit of €1.58 billion and a 4.1 % year-on-year rise in passenger numbers to 294 million across its Spanish, UK and Brazilian network. Traffic at Spanish airports alone reached 247 million passengers, up 3.9 % versus 2024, driven by strong corporate demand and the continued recovery of long-haul links to North America and Asia.

EBITDA came in at €2.88 billion, an 8.2 % increase, giving the company a robust margin of 60.2 %. Executives highlighted double-digit growth at Madrid-Barajas in premium segments and record cargo volumes at Barcelona-El Prat, underscoring Spain’s role as a logistics and business-travel hub between Europe and Latin America.

For global-mobility teams, the numbers translate into more seat availability and potentially favourable corporate-negotiated fares for 2026 contract renewals. Aena confirmed that 68 new intercontinental weekly frequencies have been approved for the IATA Winter season, including Madrid–Dallas (American Airlines) and Barcelona–Seoul (Asiana), both popular with Spanish multinationals.

The strong performance also underpins continued investment in airport upgrades, including additional EES kiosks and revamped business-traveller lounges in Málaga and Valencia. Companies planning group moves should monitor slot availability around Easter 2026, when Aena will temporarily close one runway at Barajas for maintenance—an issue flagged in the operator’s forward-guidance notes.

Analysts at CaixaBank Research say Spain’s aviation rebound, coupled with the early EES launch, positions the country as “one of the most business-traveller-friendly markets in Europe” next year—welcome news for HR mobility budgets that have been squeezed by higher airfare inflation since the pandemic.
