Ryanair hits 22 million-passenger milestone at Shannon and commits US$400 m for extra aircraft

Low-cost giant Ryanair celebrated carrying its 22 millionth passenger through Shannon Airport on 4 December—and used the occasion to unveil a record Summer 2026 schedule featuring 30 routes and a fourth based Boeing 737-MAX-8200.

The additional aircraft will add 180,000 seats (+15 %) and four new city pairs—Rome, Madrid, Warsaw and Poznań—underscoring Shannon’s rebound as a western-Ireland gateway for multinationals in the Med-Tech and FDI clusters.



Shannon Airport Group CEO Mary Considine said the US$400 million investment “secures high-frequency links to key EU capitals, strengthening the region’s attractiveness for inward investment and mobile talent.” Ryanair tickets start at €29.99, with the carrier emphasising that passengers can connect onward to 200+ destinations via its European network.

Global-mobility managers relocating staff to the Midwest should factor in the expanded flight options when drafting home-leave policies and assessing housing within commute of Shannon. The extra capacity may also temper airfares on competing carriers.
