Student reporters at Loyola University Chicago have built an online map logging real-time sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents in the city’s Rogers Park and surrounding neighbourhoods. The initiative, reported by Reuters on 13 December, began after DHS launched “Operation Midway Blitz” in September, deploying heavily armed teams to round up immigration violators.
The crowd-sourced tool now shows dozens of pins marking confirmed raids, helping residents differentiate between rumours and verified enforcement activity. Similar projects have since sprung up at the University of Chicago and DePaul University, with local media sharing tips through encrypted channels.

Illinois lawmakers have responded by passing a statute allowing residents to sue federal agents for civil-rights violations, while DHS maintains that the operation targets violent criminals. To date, more than 4,300 arrests have been made, according to agency statements.
