India to Fully Restore Visa Services in Bangladesh as New Government Takes Office
India’s High Commission in Dhaka has confirmed that all visa categories—including tourist, employment and student visas—will be reinstated “in the coming weeks” following the change of administration in Bangladesh. Speaking in Sylhet on 19 February 2026, senior consular official Aniruddha Das said only medical and double-entry business visas are currently being issued but full restoration is now a priority. Visa issuance had been scaled back amid diplomatic tensions during Bangladesh’s 2024–25 political transition. The landslide victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the appointment of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have opened the door for rapprochement. Both sides view eased mobility as essential for cross-border supply chains in garments, pharmaceuticals and IT services, sectors that depend heavily on frequent travel by engineers and buyers. For Indian businesses, the resumption will reduce reliance on third-country hubs such as Singapore for visa processing and cut project-deployment timelines. Bangladeshi firms recruiting Indian specialists—especially in power and infrastructure—will likewise benefit from predictable entry channels. Travel managers should, however, anticipate an initial application backlog once tourist visas reopen. (timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

The High Commission is expected to release new appointment slots via the IVAC (Integrated Visa Application Centre) portal. Applicants are advised to prepare updated invitation letters and ensure passports have at least six months’ validity. Companies running commuter-assignments between Kolkata and Dhaka should revisit rotation schedules to align with the revised visa calendar.
