Authorities say the extension is required because migratory pressure on the Western Balkan route remains high and organised-crime groups continue to re-route through the Czech Republic to avoid reinforced Austrian-Slovak controls. For business travellers and freight carriers the practical impact is limited to slightly longer waiting times—usually under 15 minutes—on peak evenings and early mornings. Nevertheless, supply-chain managers are being advised to factor possible inspection delays into just-in-time delivery schedules. Companies that run shuttle buses for cross-border commuters should ensure passengers carry valid passports or national ID cards; electronic ID-Austria documents are *not* yet recognised by Czech officials, the advisory notes. The Czech Interior Ministry has signalled it understands Vienna’s decision but called on both countries to step up joint patrols so that checks can be lifted “as soon as conditions allow”.
