UK-France ‘One-In, One-Out’ Channel Returns Scheme Extended to October

Paris and London have agreed to keep their pilot that swaps one irregular migrant returned to France for one legally resettled to the UK running until 1 October 2026. More than 600 people have already been removed to France and about 580 taken to Britain. The extension gives both governments more time to test the system during peak summer crossings, but critics say it leaves returnees in limbo and does little to curb smuggling.
