Pepper-spray incident forces late-night evacuation of Brussels’ Simonis metro station
Thirty passengers were evacuated from Brussels’ Simonis metro station late on 23 May after a suspected pepper-spray release left commuters coughing and short of breath. Services were suspended for 75 minutes and two people required hospital treatment. Although quickly contained, the incident highlights growing security concerns on the capital’s public transport network and the need for employers to include contingency routings in travel policies.
Maintenance works suspend Metro Line 5 between Erasme and Gare de l’Ouest this morning
STIB-MIVB closed the Erasme–Gare de l’Ouest stretch of Metro Line 5 from 05:00 to 12:30 on 24 May for CBTC signal-upgrade works. Despite replacement buses, journeys lengthened by up to half an hour and several rail connections were missed. The closure is the first of three Sunday outages (next on 7 and 21 June), and companies are urged to brief travellers and adjust scheduling.
