The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry is spearheading a 40-company delegation to Shanghai from 11-12 June, covering sectors such as advanced manufacturing, agri-food, life sciences and AI. The mission, timed to coincide with the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum, reflects a sharp 85 % year-on-year rise in new Chinese memberships at the Chamber and aims to convert interest into concrete joint ventures. For global-mobility managers, the visit signals likely growth in two-way executive assignments and short-term project travel between the UAE and China. Companies on the trip will meet Shanghai-based investors, explore free-zone setups and discuss reciprocal talent-mobility programmes. The Chamber also plans to promote Abu Dhabi’s single-window licensing platform, which can grant 100 % foreign-owned licences and accompanying work visas in under five days—key for Chinese SMEs eyeing Gulf expansion. The UAE already hosts more than 400,000 Chinese residents and 17,000 Chinese firms. Delegates hope to leverage Shanghai’s status as a fintech and biotech hub to attract R&D partners to Abu Dhabi’s $10 billion Hub71 tech ecosystem. Multinationals should watch for new Memoranda of Understanding that could fast-track employee-exchange schemes or create sector-specific visa quotas similar to existing India-UAE CEPA provisions.
