UK issues fresh Bastille Day travel advisory for Paris metro closures and traffic restrictions
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its France travel advice at 09:00 BST on 15 July 2026, warning visitors and business travellers of continuing disruptions linked to French National Day celebrations. The advisory notes that vehicle access around parts of central Paris remained restricted from 06:00–15:00 on 14 July, with parking bans in place since the previous evening. In addition, several Métro and RER stations close to the Champs-Élysées parade route—including Charles-de-Gaulle–Étoile, Franklin-D. Roosevelt and Tuileries—were temporarily closed. While Bastille Day officially ended at midnight, clean-up operations, extended security perimeters and a large influx of spectators mean transport bottlenecks can linger into 15 July. Companies with meetings scheduled in the capital this week are therefore urged to allow extra transfer time or consider remote participation, particularly if staff are travelling from Charles-de-Gaulle or Orly airports during peak hours. France’s police prefecture can widen or prolong restrictions at short notice; the FCDO directs travellers to its online alert service as well as the Préfecture de Police website for real-time updates. Insurance providers may regard failure to heed official advice as contributory negligence, so corporate travel managers should brief employees and document any itinerary changes. Although the advisory targets UK nationals, the information is equally useful for other foreign residents and EU business travellers who may not routinely monitor French-language notices. Multinational firms with Paris offices are advised to review their staff-mobility and duty-of-care procedures—particularly for employees with reduced mobility who may be affected by station closures or lift shutdowns. From an immigration-compliance perspective, no new border restrictions have been introduced; Schengen rules apply as usual. However, the heightened security posture underscores France’s continued use of temporary internal border checks (in force until at least 31 October 2026) and the importance of carrying valid travel documents even on intra-EU trips.
