EU Mobility Week 2026 began on 14 September with the first-ever ‘Greek Cities Day’, an event organised by the CIVINET Greece-Cyprus network ahead of the main CIVITAS Forum. Delegates from Cypriot municipalities and transport consultancies joined Greek counterparts in Thessaloniki to showcase zero-emission bus pilots, cycling-infrastructure roll-outs and app-based commuter services that are being scaled across the eastern Mediterranean. Limassol Municipality presented early results from its dockless e-bike scheme, reporting a 38 % uptick in usage since dynamic pricing was introduced in June. Nicosia’s Smart Ticketing Platform—developed with EU Recovery funds—was highlighted as a case study in integrating suburban buses with regional rail once the Cyprus Rail Implementation Plan is finalised. Private-sector involvement was notable: Cypriot software house MotionInsights demonstrated a mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) dashboard that aggregates ferry, bus and micromobility options for tourists, addressing pain points identified by cruise operators out of Limassol port. Venture capital investors from both countries held side meetings on a proposed €50 million “Aegean Mobility Fund” aimed at scaling such solutions. For employers managing regional assignments, the projects point to tangible improvements in first- and last-mile connectivity—a key factor in carbon-footprint reporting and duty-of-care. The Greek Cities Day outcomes feed directly into the three-day CIVITAS Forum discussions, and Cypriot officials signalled their intent to bid for the 2028 Forum, underlining the island’s ambition to serve as a living lab for sustainable corporate mobility.
