The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) refreshed its travel advisory for India on 11 October. While the risk map remains largely unchanged, the notice now emphasises that Middle-East airspace closures may delay or divert flights to and from India. Travellers whose itineraries are disrupted are advised to contact the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) if they need visa extensions or overstay condonation. The update also tweaks guidance on access permits for border states, trekking regulations in the Himalayas and common scam scenarios at major airports. Notably, the section on women’s safety now cross-references India’s new 24×7 tourist police helpline (dial 112, option 9). Why it matters for corporate mobility: UK-based assignees rotating into India may need contingency plans for layovers in the Gulf. HR should brief travellers on FRRO e-Services and ensure they carry digital copies of passport‐biographical pages and visas in case of last-minute reroutes. Travel-risk managers should also audit insurance coverages to confirm they remain valid if the trip exceeds the original visa’s “duration of stay” clause. For Indian businesses hosting UK visitors, the advisory could translate into higher due-diligence questions about emergency protocols, especially for facilities in Jammu & Kashmir or Manipur where the FCDO already advises against travel. Providing written security briefings and proof of medical-evacuation coverage will reassure compliance departments in London.
