Dual Algerian-French nationals received welcome news on 26 October 2025: Algeria will keep its exceptional visa-free entry regime in place until 31 December 2025. The Consulate-General of Algeria in Lille published a communique reminding binationals that they may enter Algeria on a valid foreign passport if they also carry either an expired Algerian passport or national ID. The measure, first introduced in 2023, was due to lapse this month.

Travel-management companies say summer holiday bookings between France and Algeria have already risen 18 % year-on-year, and carriers such as Air Algérie and Transavia are weighing capacity increases. However, travellers must still obtain a laissez-passer from the consulate if they hold no Algerian document at all, and the visa-free concession does not waive customs declarations or Covid vaccination rules still required on arrival in Algiers.
For French employers, the move reduces risk that key staff visiting family in Algeria will be stranded by consular bottlenecks. Mobility managers should nevertheless verify that employees meet the ID requirements and plan return flights early, as seats historically sell out by July.
