Consular officers set up temporary WhatsApp hotlines and liaised with airlines to re-route passengers through safer hubs in Southeast Asia and Europe after dozens of flights to Riyadh, Doha and Dubai were cancelled. Travel-risk consultants say the episode underscores the value of robust tracking tools for corporate assignees. Several multinationals operating regional headquarters in Hong Kong activated emergency-communication protocols to locate staff, re-book flights and provide mental-health support. Airfares on the few remaining routes out of the Gulf soared five- to six-fold, and insurers warned that "known-event" clauses could limit coverage for future bookings.
