Home Affairs has now confirmed the **production launch of its real-time visa tracking dashboard**, completing a two-year digital-modernisation project co-designed with Services Australia. The upgrade covers the **Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482), Student (500), Employer-Sponsored permanent residence streams and several smaller categories**. Each new submission is auto-triaged by an AI-rules engine that checks document completeness, triggers biometric requests and assigns a target decision window: 10 weeks for the 482, eight weeks for student visas and six months for ENS permanent residence. A new ‘Specialist Skills Fast Lane’ promises a seven-business-day turn-around where the nominee’s salary exceeds AUD 180,000. For global mobility teams the change is significant. “The black-box is gone,” said the regional mobility director for a US tech firm. “We can line up project start-dates with some confidence instead of adding two or three buffer months.” Universities Australia also welcomed the move, noting that predictable student-visa timing would ease enrolment planning, especially now that the Semester 2 intake coincides with tighter Genuine Student (GS) rules. Migration agents, however, cautioned that the published service standards are **targets, not legal guarantees**. The dashboard currently refreshes every 24 hours and still relies on manual case-officer actions for complex files. There are also privacy questions: employers cannot view an applicant’s status without the individual’s consent.
