The City of Genoa has published Ordinance 503/2026 imposing extensive traffic and parking restrictions from 4 to 12 May to accommodate the 97ᵗʰ National Alpini Gathering, expected to draw more than 350,000 veterans and visitors. Key arteries around the waterfront and the historic centre will switch to pedestrian-only zones, and 15 temporary park-and-ride lots with shuttle buses are being activated. Commercial deliveries in the ‘zona rossa’ will be limited to early-morning windows, and tourist coaches must pre-book entry slots via a new online portal. Taxi ranks are being relocated, while ride-hailing pick-ups will be confined to three outer hubs connected by shuttle. For residents and employers the disruption is significant. Companies with offices in the centre are advised to implement remote-working arrangements on the peak days of 8-10 May when parades are scheduled. Hotels report occupancy above 95 percent, and the local airport has authorised night-time slots for charter flights to handle the influx. The ordinance highlights the growing need for Italian municipalities to deploy flexible mobility plans during mega-events. The city will test real-time crowd-management software that could later be rolled out for the Euro 2032 football tournament.
