Ukrainian Vice-Prime-Minister Oleksiy Kuleba confirmed on 11 June 2026 that Poland and Ukraine have agreed to keep bus traffic flowing through the Shehyni–Medyka checkpoint throughout the high-season, even as extensive resurfacing of the outbound bus lane starts on 15 June. The announcement reverses an earlier Customs Service notice that had advised carriers to divert. The deal was reached after consultations with Poland’s Ministry of the Interior and the Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw. Temporary steel decking and night-shift work will allow one lane to remain operational at all times, while passenger processing tents will be installed to avoid exposure to summer heat. The news is a relief for tour operators and corporate shuttle providers who rely on the Medyka route for staff rotations between Kraków, Rzeszów and Lviv. During July and August 2025, an unscheduled closure at the same crossing added four-hour detours via Korczowa, costing logistics firms up to €50,000 in extra fuel and driver overtime. Authorities still urge travellers to monitor queue dashboards and arrive with printed tickets to speed entry. Carriers should build a 30-minute buffer into timetables and be prepared for ad-hoc ID checks linked to the new EU Entry/Exit System that launched on 12 June.
