Air Astana Adds Astana–Guangzhou Route and Boosts China Capacity
Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana is doubling down on the Chinese market, launching twice-weekly Astana–Guangzhou flights on 12 June and increasing frequencies on seven existing China routes for the Summer 2026 season. The move lifts group capacity to 51 weekly Kazakhstan–China flights, the airline’s largest single-market expansion to date. The new service complements Air Astana’s five-times-weekly Almaty–Guangzhou operation, creating one-stop access from Western China to Central-Asian energy projects and the Caspian business hub of Atyrau. Frequencies will also rise on Almaty links to Urumqi, Shanghai, Sanya, Yining and on Astana links to Beijing and Urumqi, enhancing options for Chinese contractors on Belt-and-Road infrastructure sites.

Chief executive Peter Foster said the additional capacity was timed with relaxed Chinese visa-free transit rules and Kazakhstan’s own unilateral 14-day visa waiver for Chinese nationals. Travelers who still require formal entry permits—such as multi-entry business visas—can streamline the paperwork through VisaHQ’s online portal, which offers step-by-step guidance and fast processing for China visas; corporate travel departments can learn more at https://www.visahq.com/china/ and bundle applications for staff commuting between Kazakhstan and multiple Chinese hubs. The airline expects a balanced traffic mix of Chinese leisure travellers bound for Almaty ski resorts and Kazakh oil-and-gas personnel heading to supplier bases in Guangzhou and Shanghai.

Air Astana’s expansion coincides with the gradual resumption of its Dubai services, rerouted over Pakistan due to Iranian airspace closures. Corporations sending engineers to China via Astana should monitor onward connection times as the airline adjusts regional schedules. Travel managers are advised to re-check flight numbers: several China rotations are being re-timed to create daylight departures that improve same-day onward rail connections from Chinese gateway cities.
