BCG’s Q2-2026 Top Talent Tracker shows global cross-border moves by highly-skilled workers fell 11.6 % in 2025. The UK kept its top-three position but lost share in every category and now faces a serious challenge from the UAE for AI talent. Analysts warn that reduced inflows could undermine Britain’s tech competitiveness unless business and government make immigration, up-skilling and automation core strategic priorities.

Home Office issues fresh wave of Skilled Worker sponsor licences, expanding hiring options for UK firms

The Home Office’s 16 June update to the Register of Licensed Sponsors added roughly 180 organisations, taking the total number of UK Skilled Worker sponsors above 77,000. New licence-holders range from aerospace firm JetMS Completions to Oxford Brookes University, giving employers and overseas talent more placement options ahead of higher salary and English-language requirements that start in January 2026.
