Finnish Foreign Ministry refreshes travel advisories for Poland and Sri Lanka
In its first monthly review of the summer high-season, Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) updated several country advisories on 1 July 2026. Poland’s rating remains “exercise normal caution,” but the notice now highlights congestion around World Youth Day events in Kraków later this month and reminds travellers that Schengen ID checks may be re-introduced at short notice. Sri Lanka, by contrast, has been moved from “normal caution” to “exercise special caution” amid rolling power cuts and isolated protests linked to fuel shortages. The MFA says Finnish citizens in Sri Lanka should register on the “Matkustusilmoitus” system, keep extra cash on hand, and expect intermittent mobile-data blackouts. Business visitors are advised to pad travel schedules and verify that generators are functioning at hotels and factory sites. The advisory also flags an uptick in dengue cases in Colombo and the Western Province. For Poland, the ministry’s main concern is crowd management and pick-pocketing risk in Kraków and Warsaw, but it also notes new digital-tax obligations for foreign gig-economy workers entering on short stays—information that payroll departments should note when sending employees on temporary assignment. Although the MFA issues notices in Finnish, Swedish and English, the updates feed directly into many corporate travel-risk platforms via API, meaning employers must refresh data sets to remain compliant with ISO 31030 travel-risk guidelines. Failure to do so could expose companies to duty-of-care liability if incidents occur.
