Air Canada inaugurates Berlin–Montreal route, boosting transatlantic options for German firms
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) recorded a milestone on 3 July 2026 when Air Canada operated the first of three weekly flights to Montreal. The seasonal service runs until 6 September with Boeing 787-8 equipment before switching to the fuel-efficient Airbus A321XLR later in the month. Business chambers welcomed the link, arguing it shortens door-to-door travel time for tech and creative-industry clusters in Berlin–Brandenburg engaging with Canada’s AI and gaming hubs. Until now most corporate itineraries required a Frankfurt or Munich connection. The narrow-body XLR will reduce per-seat costs and carbon emissions, but cargo capacity is limited. Freight forwarders handling high-value spare parts should secure allotments early or continue routing via Frankfurt. For assignees, Montreal offers a convenient gateway to obtain Canadian work permits under CUSMA and the Global Skills Strategy. Employers should verify quarantine-free entry rules for Schengen passengers, which remain subject to random health checks under Canada’s post-pandemic framework.
