VFS Global has confirmed that its UK Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Abuja, Nigeria, is reopening on 14 July after an unscheduled closure the previous day caused by “unforeseen circumstances”. All customers booked for 13 July have been contacted and re-slotted. Nigeria is the UK’s third-largest source market for work and student visas, so any Abuja disruption quickly ripples through global mobility programmes. HR teams moving talent under the Skilled Worker and Graduate routes should double-check rescheduled biometrics dates feed through to UKVI systems; delays can freeze the 10-day Certificate of Sponsorship validity window. VFS says priority and Super-Priority services will operate as normal from today, but applicants needing urgent travel should use the ‘Contact us’ link on the VFS site. The Lagos Ikeja and Victoria Island centres were unaffected. Employers with Nigerian assignees should revisit travel dates – even a 24-hour slip can jeopardise onboarding if start dates are immovable – and consider passport courier options to avoid a repeat should Abuja experience further short-notice closures during the rainy season.
