EU to bar Russian ex-combatants from Schengen visas; Belgian authorities begin security checks ahead of October enforcement
EU ambassadors meeting in Brussels have backed a proposal to refuse Schengen visas and entry to Russian ex-combatants as part of the latest sanctions package. Belgium – host to the Council and a major Schengen entry point – has already started re-screening pending Russian visa files and warning employers of longer processing times. The ban is expected to apply from October and could disrupt corporate travel plans that route through Belgian airports.
Tomorrowland influx triggers three-hour passport queues for non-EU travellers at Brussels Airport
Social-media reports from 24 July show non-EU passengers waiting up to three hours at Brussels Airport immigration as the EES biometric system struggles with Tomorrowland traffic peaks. Airlines and corporate travel managers are warning of missed connections and advising travellers to allow extra time or reroute via other hubs until additional border booths open next week.

SNCB-International has curtailed Brussels–Amsterdam EuroCity and Eurocity Direct trains at Breda since 21 July because of engineering works, with normal through-services due to resume after tonight’s departures. Travellers must still change trains and allow up to 45 minutes of extra journey time on 24 July.
