Passengers in Sardinia faced significant delays on Saturday 25 July as workers of regional operator ARST walked off the job for eight hours in Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro and Oristano. The action was called by the UGL Autoferrotranvieri union over scheduling and staffing levels during the tourist season. Public transport authority CTM arranged limited replacement buses on metropolitan routes, but inter-city and airport connections were heavily reduced. Cruise-ship operators in Cagliari port reported missed shore excursions, while resorts in the north organised private shuttles for arriving guests. Under Italian strike law peak-commuter bands are protected, so the stoppage ran in staggered slots outside the 06:00-09:00 and 12:00-15:00 windows, minimising impact on local workers but leaving afternoon tourists stranded. Employers with posted workers on the island should reimburse taxi receipts and encourage the use of car-sharing apps where available. Another ARST strike is already notified for 10 August if talks fail.
