A search of their vehicle uncovered fireworks, cutting tools, fuel canisters and disguises, material the Questura of Turin says was intended for violent action against the Turin–Lyon rail construction sites. The expulsions come as Valle di Susa gears up for the 10th Alta Felicità festival and a large No-TAV protest march scheduled for 25 July. Under EU free-movement rules, member states may deport EU citizens who represent a concrete threat to public order, provided decisions are proportionate and individually reasoned. For corporate mobility teams the case highlights Italy’s heightened border vigilance this weekend. Even EU passport-holders may face secondary questioning if travelling with bulky luggage or protest-related paraphernalia. Employers sending staff or contractors into the Valsusa area should verify that accommodation bookings and travel purposes can be documented. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that additional patrols will remain in place through Monday morning, and warned that further expulsions are possible if more extremist groups attempt to cross into Italy.
