A codeshare agreement announced on 28 July will see Uzbekistan Airways place its ‘HY’ code on China Southern flights from Beijing Daxing, Guangzhou and Urumqi to Tashkent, while China Southern will add its ‘CZ’ code to Uzbekistan Airways services from Tashkent to Beijing Daxing, Guangzhou, Urumqi and Hangzhou. The deal creates seamless one-stop itineraries across Central Asia and China, reducing minimum connection times and allowing through-checked baggage. It also supports Beijing’s Belt and Road ambitions by facilitating travel for engineering, mining and logistics personnel moving between the two countries. For employers, the partnership could lower travel costs by unlocking interline fares and boosting seat availability during the autumn Canton Fair and year-end project-mobilisation period. Mobility teams should update preferred-carrier lists and ensure travel-booking tools reflect the new codeshare inventory. Industry observers note that Urumqi’s role as a Silk Road aviation hub will be strengthened, potentially attracting more foreign direct investment into Xinjiang as flight options grow.
