A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, explaining the high cut-off compared with general draws. The draw is the 43rd of the year and the first since IRCC paused rounds during the Civic Holiday long weekend. It signals that Ottawa continues to rely on provinces to select immigrants who can fill local labour shortages. British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta have all increased their 2026 nomination allocations, and several provinces have begun aggressively targeting health-care, construction and climate-tech occupations. For employers, the draw underscores the value of supporting foreign workers in securing a nomination: those extra 600 points virtually guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA) even when overall CRS scores remain historically elevated. According to the latest pool snapshot, more than 93,000 candidates have CRS scores above 501, reflecting persistent competition in federal pathways. Candidates who receive an ITA now have 60 days to submit a complete application, including medicals, police certificates and proof of settlement funds. IRCC processing times for PNP applicants currently average nine months, but applicants nominated by a province often see faster timelines because part of the assessment has already been completed locally. Looking ahead, stakeholders expect at least one category-based draw later in August, likely focused on French proficiency or STEM occupations. However, with the backlog still hovering near 2.2 million files, many are urging IRCC to widen program-specific draws to maintain admission targets without further inflating cut-off scores in general rounds.
