Border officers processed an average of 370 international and regional flights each day, 7.8 percent more than last year. Officials said visa-free arrivals climbed sharply, buoyed by a surge in Southeast Asian leisure travellers taking advantage of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area’s 144-hour transit waiver. The airport deployed multilingual ‘festival task-forces’ who offered moon-cake tastings and helped elderly passengers use facial-recognition e-gates. Guangzhou’s growth matters because the city is a manufacturing hub that relies on visiting engineers and procurement teams. Mobility managers should note that Baiyun’s Terminal 2 now dedicates six counters exclusively to same-day “port visas” for urgent business visits up to 15 days—useful when invitation letters arrive late. Looking ahead to Golden Week, authorities advise arriving two hours earlier than usual and completing the digital customs declaration in advance to avoid congestion at yellow-channel health-check kiosks.
