Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) quietly announced on 29 September that every overseas short-stay and long-stay visa application, as well as all appeals, is now being processed in Dublin rather than at regional visa offices. The agency’s updated “Visa Decisions” page lists fresh cut-off dates for each category—business visas received by 27 August are under assessment, employment visas by 1 August, and study permits by 22 June. Family-reunification queues remain lengthy, with files from June 2024 still pending due to intensive constitutional and ECHR reviews. The centralisation reflects a year-long consolidation drive aimed at standardising decision quality, clearing regional backlogs and making greater use of the ISD customer-service portal for applicant correspondence. Under the new model, embassy visa desks will focus on biometric collection and document verification, while final adjudication occurs at ISD headquarters in Burgh Quay. Weekly decision lists, also posted on 29 September, show 280 approvals and 320 refusals across permit types. For employers and relocation providers, the change means that inquiries must now be channelled through the Dublin office, potentially streamlining communication but also concentrating workloads. ISD stresses that time-sensitive travellers—especially those requiring pre-clearance for work in the health or voluntary sectors—should flag urgency via the portal and submit proof of travel. The agency also reiterates its advice not to book non-refundable tickets before a decision is issued. Practically, centralisation eliminates the patchwork of processing standards that sometimes saw similar cases decided differently in Ankara, Pretoria or New Delhi. It may, however, extend shipping times for physical passports in regions lacking rapid courier links to Ireland. Mobility teams should pad schedules for document return and monitor the Tuesday updates to anticipate when upcoming cohorts are likely to be decided. ISD indicates that the merged workflow will be reviewed after six months; stakeholder feedback is invited through designated contact points on the website.
