Polish and Slovak authorities have issued an advisory for drivers and coach operators that the Barwinek–Vyšný Komárnik border crossing on National Road 19 will be completely closed from 06:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, 3 October 2026. The shutdown is linked to Slovakia’s 82nd-anniversary events marking the Karpaty-Dukla military operation, which will include a historical re-enactment and official convoy movements. The Podkarpackie Police warn of significant congestion on approach roads and urge hauliers to divert via the Chyżne–Trstená crossing in Małopolska or the low-tonnage Ożenna–Nižná Polianka route. Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are barred from the latter, except for buses, making advance route planning essential for time-critical deliveries between southern Poland and central Slovakia. Global-mobility teams with staff stationed at the Rzeszów aviation cluster or Slovakia’s Košice technology park should alert travellers to possible detours of up to 90 kilometres. Employers running commuter shuttles across the frontier are advised to schedule departures outside the closure window or arrange overnight accommodation. The incident highlights the importance of monitoring local commemorative or political events, which can trigger ad-hoc border restrictions even within the Schengen area. Travel-management companies should ensure that driver briefings and GPS routing software are updated to reflect the temporary closure and subsequent traffic recovery period.
