Prince Edward Island’s Office of Immigration issued 90 invitations to apply for provincial nomination on 7 October 2026, the fewest since January. All invitations went to candidates in the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams, while the Business Work-Permit Entrepreneur category recorded its tenth consecutive zero-invite round. The PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) remains a popular back door into Express Entry because a provincial nomination adds 600 Comprehensive Ranking System points, effectively guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence. With this latest round, the Island has extended 1,319 invitations across ten draws in 2026, already surpassing last year’s full-year tally. Program managers attribute the smaller October round to a mid-year surge that front-loaded nominations: June through September each topped 180 invitations. Officials also confirmed that healthcare, trades and advanced-manufacturing occupations continue to dominate selections, while sales-and-service occupations receive lower priority amid labour-market saturation. For employers, the message is twofold: PEI is still courting skilled talent but is pacing its yearly allocation more cautiously; and business entrepreneurs should temper expectations until the province publishes an updated points threshold. Candidates holding PEI job offers or local study credentials remain best placed to secure one of the increasingly competitive slots.
