Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced that the two right lanes of Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street toward Al Ain will be closed from 23:45 on Friday 9 October until 06:00 on Monday 12 October. The arterial route is a popular feeder for motorists driving from the city centre to Abu Dhabi International Airport and to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E22). The agency urged drivers to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time. For residents of Khalifa City and expatriates returning from the October half-term break, the closure coincides with peak evening arrivals on Etihad Airways’ European bank and could lengthen taxi rides by up to 20 minutes. Corporate mobility managers with Sunday-morning fly-outs should notify travelling staff, particularly those using ride-hailing services that may automatically select the affected road. Logistics firms servicing Al Ain and the Western Region are diverting to Sweihan Road, adding 12-15 km per trip and marginally increasing same-day delivery costs. Abu Dhabi Mobility says crews will install new smart-traffic sensors during the closure, part of a wider ITS upgrade designed to optimise signal timings and reduce congestion long-term. The agency promises real-time updates via its Darb app and social-media channels.
