Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) has released a comprehensive special-traffic bulletin for the 2026 Hong Kong Cyclothon, to be held on Sunday 11 October. Widespread overnight road closures will affect key arteries in New Territories South, West Kowloon and the Central Kowloon Bypass from 1 a.m., with knock-on effects for airport transfers, cross-harbour tunnel access and coach routes to the mainland border. The bulletin warns that bus services between the Airport and urban districts may face longer journey times. Travellers connecting to early-morning flights are advised to leave at least 30 minutes earlier, while those heading to Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail stations should plan for diversions. To ease demand, China State Railway Group will add temporary trip G9731 from Shenzhenbei to Hong Kong West Kowloon on event day and adjust the schedules of several inter-city services. Maritime links are also impacted: Park Island Transport Company has cancelled selected sailings on its Ma Wan–Central and Ma Wan–Tsuen Wan ferry routes on 9 October, substituting bus service NR338S for displaced commuters. Additional ferry adjustments may follow if strong tidal flows coincide with the cycling event. Motorists from New Territories West bound for the Airport and Lantau Island will be diverted via Tsuen Wan Road and Tsing Yi North Coastal Road due to the closure of Ting Kau Bridge (Kowloon bound). TD emphasises that Western Harbour Crossing will operate normally, but access roads will be busier than usual. Employers arranging weekend travel for expatriate assignees or post-trade-fair departures should distribute the advisory and ensure airport shuttles have contingency routes logged with drivers’ navigation systems.
