Eurostar has scrapped several trains to and from Brussels for Monday, 12 October because of the Belgian public-sector strike that will affect signalling and station staff. A travel-update bulletin posted on 11 October (15:53 CET) lists cancellations on the high-demand Brussels–London and Brussels–Amsterdam corridors, including trains 9141, 9148 and 9157. Passengers booked on the affected services can exchange tickets at no cost or request a full refund within 60 days. Although Eurostar staff are not striking, the operator depends on Belgian rail infrastructure and security screening delivered by local subcontractors. Reduced capacity at Brussels-Midi check-in and potential platform closures mean remaining trains may operate with modified boarding times. Eurostar urges travellers to arrive at least 60 minutes before departure and to monitor live updates via its app. Corporate travel managers should note that Eurostar has suspended its “one-day flexibility” upgrade for Premier passengers on 12 October, citing limited seating. Group bookings of more than ten passengers are being re-routed to flights between Brussels and London City Airport, but these involve extra security checks and higher carbon footprints. The episode illustrates how industrial action in one member state can reverberate across multiple jurisdictions and highlights the fragility of Europe’s post-Brexit rail corridor. Firms relying on same-day Brussels–London rotations for meetings or EU regulatory filings are advised to shift appointments or switch to virtual formats. Eurostar says normal operations should resume with the first departure on Tuesday, 13 October, subject to rail-network clearance.
