The long-anticipated European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) has hit another delay, and Czech tour operators are scrambling to update their pre-departure checklists. In a detailed 17 October guidance piece, industry platform *Viaondo* reminded agencies that the EU’s official ETIAS site still carries the notice “not in operation”, with no new launch date after the earlier “Q4 2026” window disappeared. The article outlines what Czech agencies should tell visa-exempt clients—particularly travellers from the United States, United Kingdom and Canada who make up a sizeable share of inbound meetings and incentive traffic to Prague and Brno. The EUR 20 application fee (waived for under-18s and over-70s) remains, but applications cannot yet be submitted, and unofficial “pre-registration” sites are charging for a service that does not exist. For Czech corporates arranging pan-European trips, the guidance is clear: build ETIAS reminders into itineraries but advise travellers to wait for an EU announcement before handing over money or personal data. Agencies may file on a client’s behalf once the system opens, provided they hold a signed declaration of representation and use the traveller’s own e-mail address so that future revocation notices reach the right inbox. The delay also intersects with the new Entry/Exit System (EES) that has been scanning passports at Schengen external borders since April 2026. Czech airports report longer queues for non-EU nationals as front-line officers adjust to biometric kiosks; ETIAS is expected to streamline risk assessments but only after go-live. Until then, travellers should arrive earlier for departures, and employers should factor potential border-processing variability into schedules. While the European Commission has promised “several months’ notice” before ETIAS becomes mandatory, the uncertainty complicates marketing for Czech Christmas-market packages that target North-American tourists booking now for December 2026. Trade group ACK ČR says it will translate the Viaondo checklist and circulate it to its 750 member agencies next week.
