A route bulletin published on 20 October shows Qantas will add its ‘QF’ flight number to five Cathay Pacific services linking Hong Kong with Brisbane, Adelaide, Dhaka, Manila and Kathmandu from 25 October. The new codeshares integrate those cities into Qantas’s virtual network without deploying additional aircraft, giving frequent flyers access to through-checked baggage and status benefits. Brisbane and Adelaide gain the biggest boost, effectively adding daily one-stop options to South Asia and Nepal—markets previously underserved from Australia’s secondary capitals. Corporate mobility teams reliant on FIFO schedules to Manila’s offshore-processing sector say the change will slash connection times and simplify ticketing policies. The codeshare comes as Hong Kong International Airport ramps up capacity, and it counters similar tie-ups announced by Singapore Airlines. Travel-data firm OAG expects seat inventory under the QF code to rise by 3 per cent in the northern-winter season, easing pressure after capacity cuts on other Asian routes. Because passengers will clear immigration at their final destination, the arrangement does not alter Australian border processes, but it does widen the pool of itineraries eligible for Qantas’s digital Australia Travel Declaration trials.
