Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) issued a special traffic bulletin at 09:16 HKT today, 22 October 2026, announcing ad-hoc adjustments to passenger-moving services on land and sea. Park Island Transport’s Central–Ma Wan sailings at 17:00/19:30 ex-Ma Wan and 17:30/20:00 ex-Central are replaced by relief buses, while the Ma Wan–Tsuen Wan ferry run at 08:10 has been cancelled outright; the corresponding Tsuen Wan departure at 08:30 is also suspended. The TD advised island residents and commuters to factor extra journey time into evening peak plans and to consult the “HKeMobility” app for live updates before setting out. In the same notice the Department confirmed that MTR Corporation will enhance in-town check-in (ITCI) at Airport Express stations. Starting today, Cathay Pacific passengers can drop luggage at Hong Kong Station until 23:00—two hours later than before—while Hong Kong Airlines counters will remain open until 19:00. China Airlines and EVA Air have restored full-day ITCI at Hong Kong Station, complementing continuing services at Kowloon Station for selected carriers. The longer cut-off windows are designed to spread passenger flow as airlines consolidate flight schedules during the typhoon period. Although the TD stressed that the adjustments are “routine operational fine-tuning”, mobility teams should note the potential knock-on effects for assignees living on outlying islands. Shuttle-bus replacement services can add 30–45 minutes to door-to-door travel and often lack space for large luggage, complicating airport transfers. Employers should remind relocating staff to budget extra time or consider overnighting on Hong Kong Island if they have early-morning departures. For visitors connecting through Hong Kong, the extended ITCI hours offer welcome flexibility. Travellers arriving on late-afternoon short-haul flights can now complete check-in formalities downtown and attend business meetings baggage-free, enhancing productivity. Companies operating group movements should, however, brief travellers that all passengers must still present proof of airline acceptance (boarding pass or e-ticket) and travel documents when using ITCI. The TD reiterated that real-time alerts on road congestion, ferry delays and rail incidents will continue to be pushed via “HKeMobility” and the government’s “iAM Smart” platform. Mobility managers are encouraged to integrate those feeds into corporate travel dashboards to maintain duty-of-care visibility throughout the current spell of unsettled weather.
