Macao launches year-long free coach transfer from Hong Kong International Airport
International passengers who land at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) can from 20 January 2026 travel onward to Macao for free after clearing Hong Kong immigration. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has partnered with cross-border operator Macau HK Airport Direct to give arriving visitors unlimited complimentary one-way tickets on the direct coach service that departs the airport’s SkyPier terminal and crosses the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge. The promotion, which runs until 31 December 2026, is open to holders of passports issued outside Greater China (mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).(gcs.gov.mo)

MGTO says the initiative builds on free-ticket campaigns in 2024 and 2025 that successfully stimulated twin-destination travel. International arrivals to Macao rebounded to 9 million last year—still only 70 % of pre-pandemic levels—and officials believe friction-free transfers via Hong Kong’s far larger air hub are the fastest way to regain market share. Eligible passengers collect their tickets at a counter inside the restricted area before baggage claim and must complete formalities for entering Macao on arrival at the city’s checkpoint.(gcs.gov.mo)

For corporates, the offer removes a HK$330 (US$42) transport cost per traveller and can shave more than an hour off the traditional land-plus-ferry routing. Meetings-and-incentives planners are already bundling the service into packages that combine Hong Kong conferences with resort stays at Cotai’s integrated resorts. Airlines are expected to piggy-back on the campaign through code-share sales and joint marketing.(gcs.gov.mo)

Travel managers should note that seats are subject to quota and must be pre-booked online; passports will be checked against the reservation at the coach gate. The ticket covers checked luggage, but bulky items—such as trade-fair booths—require pre-payment of an excess-baggage fee. MGTO has hinted that similar free-transfer schemes could be launched with cruise lines once berthing schedules at the Taipa Passenger Terminal normalise.(gcs.gov.mo)
