Insurers have also tightened terms: several underwriters now treat the UAE as a heightened-risk zone, triggering additional premium surcharges or exclusions for non-essential trips. Companies contemplating rotations or project kick-offs in the Gulf are advised to scrutinise force-majeure clauses and ensure contracts allow for remote execution if travel is disrupted again. The episode demonstrates the Irish Government’s growing readiness to mount large-scale repatriations—a capability last used during the 2020 pandemic. It also underscores the importance of registering overseas employees, as only those logged with DFA received rapid notification of seats on the charter.
