Ground Staff Announce 18 June Strike at Paris CDG, Orly and Le Bourget

Ground Staff Announce 18 June Strike at Paris CDG, Orly and Le Bourget
An inter-union coalition representing ground-handling and security-screening staff at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, Orly and Le Bourget has filed a 24-hour strike notice for Tuesday, 18 June. The walk-out is aimed at protesting what unions call the “arbitrary and opaque” withdrawal of airport-security badges following tighter criminal-record vetting introduced by the Préfecture de Police earlier this year. Sortiraparis reports that all passenger terminals will remain open but airlines have been instructed by the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) to cut flight schedules by up to 20 %, with priority slots reserved for long-haul and connecting flights. Low-cost and point-to-point leisure services are likely to bear the brunt of cancellations, while transfer passengers could face longer minimum-connection times because of potential bottlenecks at security re-screening points. The strike falls three days after the G7 summit concludes, raising concerns that contingency resources already stretched by summit-related deployments may be insufficient to cope with simultaneous industrial action. Air France said it is preparing a “protect” commercial-policy allowing free date changes or refunds for travel on 18 – 19 June.

If itinerary changes force you to transit through additional countries, remember that some routings may still require visas—even for short layovers. For corporate mobility planners, the advice is clear: avoid critical meetings in Paris on 18 June, or build in redundancy—such as flexible tickets via Brussels or Lyon and the option of rail travel on Eurostar or TGV. Travellers who cannot shift dates should arrive at the airport at least four hours ahead of departure and travel with hand-luggage only, as baggage-sorting services are among those likely to be understaffed. Negotiations between unions and the Préfecture are scheduled for 16 June, but union officials say the strike will proceed unless the badge-review process is suspended.
