Palma Airport mobility-assistance staff begin indefinite strike on 17 June, threatening summer flights from UK
Passengers heading from the UK to Mallorca this week face fresh disruption after workers who assist travellers with reduced mobility (PRM) at Palma de Mallorca Airport walked out at midnight on 17 June 2026. The Adelte-employed team rejected a last-minute pay and staffing proposal, triggering a 24-hour-a-day stoppage with no end date. The walk-out coincides with Britain’s peak outbound holiday season and the island’s busiest arrival weekend so far this year. Tour operators Jet2, easyJet Holidays and TUI told customers they are reviewing contingency plans that include diverting aircraft stands and bussing PRM customers to terminals manually, but warned that delays and occasional re-routing via Ibiza cannot be ruled out. Because Palma is a key Mediterranean hub, knock-on effects will reach connecting flights across Spain. The strike also collides with the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) trials at Spanish borders. If PRM passengers cannot reach biometric kiosks quickly, queues for all nationalities—including British visitors who now require passport stamps—could lengthen dramatically. Business-travel risk managers are advising UK companies to build extra buffer time into itineraries, book assistance services at least 48 hours ahead, and remind employees that European Union Regulation 261 compensation is unlikely if delays stem from an airport-facility strike not directly under the airline’s control.
