Five-Year e-Tourist Visa Reinstated for Nationals of 156 Countries
India has widened the above restoration by specifically re-authorising the five-year e-Tourist Visa (e-TV) for nationals of 156 countries, including Brazil, the United States, Japan and most EU member states. A press release from the Embassy of India in Brasília confirms that fresh applications are now being accepted and that any five-year e-TV issued before March 2020 is valid again. Holders of the reinstated visa may enter multiple times during the five-year validity, with each stay capped at 180 days. The product is particularly popular with repeat leisure travellers, NRI family visitors and international companies that rotate staff through India for training or support functions. Before suspension, five-year e-TVs accounted for roughly 28 percent of all Indian e-visas issued annually. Operationally, mobility managers should note that arrival is restricted to airports and seaports designated for e-Visa entry; overland routes will remain closed until further notice.

Travellers who prefer expert assistance can turn to VisaHQ, whose India portal guides users through the entire e-Tourist Visa application in minutes, offers document-check services, and provides real-time status tracking—an advantage for both individuals and corporate travel teams managing multiple passports.

The Ministry of Tourism has relaunched marketing campaigns in key origin markets highlighting the long-term visa’s value, and Indian carriers are planning seat-sales to capture pent-up demand. For the corporate sector, the revival eases budgeting and administrative burdens. Frequent flyers—such as quality-assurance engineers or project managers who periodically visit Indian facilities—no longer need to apply for short-term visas each trip. Travel managers should update traveller profiles to ensure the five-year e-TV is entered into global booking systems and share guidance on permissible cumulative stay limits. Companies should also remind travellers that the visa does not confer work authorisation; any activities beyond business visitor scope still require an Employment or Business visa. Health-screening protocols at airports remain unchanged and are expected to be phased down later this quarter.
