Cost-conscious Czechs still plan summer escapes abroad, survey finds
Despite inflation and a weak koruna, most Czech residents still intend to travel this summer, according to a new STEM/MARK poll highlighted in Expats.cz’s 11 July news briefing. Sixty-two percent of respondents said they had already booked or were actively considering a main holiday; only 16 percent ruled travel out completely. Price sensitivity is the dominant factor shaping itineraries. A slim majority (52 percent) hope to spend no more than CZK 15,000 (≈ €610) per person per week, leading many to favour self-drive trips to traditional beach staples such as Croatia, Italy and Poland where accommodation can be booked last-minute. Nevertheless, 53 percent still prefer to holiday abroad rather than domestically, testifying to pent-up demand after last year’s airport disruptions and a colder-than-average spring at home. Only 34 percent plan to stay within Czechia’s borders.

If your chosen destination still calls for a visa, VisaHQ’s Czech Republic page lets travellers compare requirements, apply online and receive status alerts in one place, taking the stress—and extra cost—out of last-minute paperwork.

For travel managers the message is twofold: outbound volumes through Prague’s Václav Havel Airport and land crossings into Austria and Germany will remain strong through late August, but travellers will be more price-driven and tolerant of longer road journeys to avoid airfares. Corporate policies may need to allow mileage reimbursement or car-rental alternatives when low-cost flights sell out. The survey also offers insight into ancillary spend: 27 percent of Czechs intend to cap total trip costs—including food and activities—at CZK 20,000, signalling opportunities for midscale hotels and serviced apartments but headwinds for upscale packages. Travel insurers report a 12 percent uptick in inquiries about cancellation cover, reflecting geopolitical concerns after recent French strikes and Balkan border wait times. Businesses hosting inbound assignees should anticipate leaner office attendance in July and early August and secure immigration appointments before officials themselves go on leave. Consulates warn of extended processing for dependent visas during peak holiday weeks.
