Heat doesn’t deter UAE holiday-makers, but it is changing how they design European trips
Despite record temperatures across southern Europe, UAE residents are pressing ahead with summer holidays – but with a different playbook. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Musafir.com, Wego and Cleartrip all report healthy forward bookings to Switzerland, France and Italy, yet note that clients are favouring alpine resorts, coastal towns and shaded itineraries rather than city-center walking tours. Industry data show nine in ten UAE summer hotel bookings are overseas; the Maldives alone captures one in five reservations, while Thailand, Mauritius, Canada and Australia round out the top five. Scandinavian and Baltic cities, long overlooked by Gulf travellers, are suddenly trending because average July highs stay below 25 °C. Luxury travellers, agents add, now screen destinations first by perceived “thermal comfort” before looking at beaches or shopping. Visa friction is also reshaping demand. Schengen appointment slots remain tight through mid-August, pushing some families towards visa-free alternatives such as Georgia, Kazakhstan and Kenya’s e-visa.

At this juncture, many UAE holidaymakers are turning to VisaHQ to simplify these shifting entry requirements. The service’s dedicated UAE portal aggregates real-time visa rules, books scarce consular appointments and even arranges passport couriers, helping travelers pivot smoothly between Schengen paperwork and the fast-growing list of e-visa destinations mentioned above.

Cleartrip notes a 72 % year-on-year spike in Phuket bookings and a 69 % jump for Japan, markets where UAE residents enjoy straightforward e-visa or visa-on-arrival entry. For relocation teams moving talent into or through the UAE, these patterns have operational implications. Staff on European home leave may face last-minute itinerary changes if heat or wildfire warnings escalate. HR managers are advising assignees to keep at least two free days between their return to the Emirates and any official start date in case of delays. Travel suppliers meanwhile are packaging “cool climate” guarantees with free rebooking if maximum temperatures exceed agreed thresholds. Analysts expect the ‘weather-first’ mindset to endure. They predict that by 2028 most online travel agencies will add a “feels like below 25 °C” filter alongside price and star rating – a development born directly out of the UAE market’s 2026 experience.
