Preliminary Statistics Canada data released July 14 reveal that June 2026 international arrivals to Canada reached 5.5 million, up 3.6 % on the same month last year, thanks largely to the men’s FIFA World Cup matches hosted in Vancouver and Toronto. Air arrivals from the 15 overseas countries whose teams played in Canada surged 32.5 %, adding almost 29,500 visitors. Panama topped the growth table (+9,392), followed by Australia (+7,693) and Germany (+3,899). Travel from the United States also climbed for a fifth straight month, with 1.5 million road trips recorded—an encouraging sign for cross-border retail and tourism operators. The figures matter to mobility managers because they foreshadow capacity constraints at major airports ahead of the tournament’s knockout rounds in July. Peak arrival days aligned closely with match schedules, suggesting further spikes when the tournament resumes in late June 2027. Companies planning incentive travel or executive visits this summer may wish to avoid fixtures and allocate extra clearance time. While overall air arrivals rose 5.8 %, automobile arrivals by overseas residents dipped 2.0 %, indicating that many visitors are opting for direct-to-city flights rather than multi-modal journeys. Canadian residents also travelled more, making 2.6 million return trips abroad—evidence that outbound demand is recovering alongside inbound flows. Airport authorities in Vancouver (YVR) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ) say they are using the June data to fine-tune staffing and biometrics-processing schedules. Travellers with NEXUS or Mobile Passport Control are advised to enrol in, or update, trusted-traveller profiles to bypass summer bottlenecks.
