The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Rabat has announced an unexpected two-day suspension of its consular section on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 July due to “technical reasons”. All visa, authentication and passport services are affected, including submission of biometric data and passport pick-up. Emergency travel-document assistance for Chinese citizens will still be available via the embassy’s 24-hour hotline. Applicants with scheduled appointments on the affected dates will automatically be re-booked for the same time slots on Monday 27 July. The embassy advises travellers with imminent departures to email scan copies of flight tickets to obtain expedited processing once services resume. The downtime coincides with peak summer-holiday travel, and Moroccan tour operators handling rising Chinese inbound groups voiced concern over tight turnaround times for group visas (type L). Corporates arranging business-trip notices (PU letters) for Moroccan employees heading to China should anticipate an additional 2–3 working-day delay. Observers note that several Chinese missions worldwide are migrating to a new cloud-based consular-management system that interfaces with China’s National Immigration Administration in real time; short-term closures have become common as hardware is installed. Travel managers should track local embassy websites and build date buffers into visa lead times, particularly in jurisdictions where appointment slots are scarce.
