Immigration offsets natural population decline in Finland, latest data show
Statistics Finland’s mid-year data released 25 July 2026 show Finland gained only 16 residents in H1 2026, with net migration of 5,226 offsetting a natural decrease of 5,210. The numbers highlight the economy’s growing reliance on foreign labour despite the government’s tougher immigration stance and proposed points-based system. Employers should expect stricter salary and language rules but can still secure fast-track permits for highly skilled staff.
