Finavia has scheduled a nine-hour maintenance window at Kuusamo Airport (EFKS) on 3 August, closing the airport’s sole runway (12/30) from 08:15 to 17:00 local time. The closure was published via a NOTAM early Monday morning and confirmed by Finavia’s operations centre. Kuusamo is the primary air gateway to Finland’s popular Ruka ski and summer-adventure resort area. During the closure, the runway can be reopened on 30-minutes’ prior notice for air-ambulance, state or diversion traffic, but scheduled commercial services have been cancelled or retimed. Finnair switched its morning Helsinki–Kuusamo rotation to a larger ATR 72 later in the evening, while charter operator TuiFly moved its inbound leisure flight to Oulu, arranging a two-hour coach transfer for passengers. The maintenance involves rapid-setting asphalt resurfacing to address surface abrasion identified during spring inspections. Finavia opted for an intensive daytime block to minimise operational complexity; night-time work is challenging this far north due to wildlife-hazard mitigation. Travel-management companies with clients in the forestry and mining sectors around Kuusamo have been alerted to potential last-mile delays. Logistics firms moving high-value fish cargo from Russia-adjacent regions have re-scheduled collection windows. No impact on Schengen border-control processes is expected, but passengers should arrive early for the first outbound flight once the runway re-opens.
